How the Foreign Ukrainian Status Helps (Visas, Education, Immigration)
Foreigners with Ukrainian roots practically do not apply for a certificate of a foreign Ukrainian due to a lack of understanding of its advantages, although the advantages of this status are simply colossal. In most cases, the advantages of a foreign Ukrainian status are even more significant than a permanent residence permit.
Holding the foreign Ukrainian status provides practical benefits:
- Simplified visa applications to Ukraine (possibility of obtaining a C-05 visa for 90 days within 5 years);
- Access to education in Ukraine under local terms;
- Eligibility for residence permit or citizenship under simplified rules (Article 8 of the Citizenship Law);
- Stronger cultural and legal connection with Ukraine.
In the event that a foreigner does not fall under the requirements for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship, for example, due to the distant lineage (since for obtaining citizenship, the family relationship should not be further than a great-grandfather or great-grandmother), it is possible to first obtain the status of a foreign Ukrainian, for which there is no such requirement, and then submit documents for Ukrainian citizenship.
